Div A / Div B (English)

by Krutch

Division A/B
Since the release of S2, the OWRL has used a division system to keep the racing interesting for all types of drivers. There are two divisions. Div A, which will use one of the high-powered formula cars, and Div B where drivers will compete in one of the smaller formula cars.

2010
Div A uses the Formula V8. Div B will alternate between the Formula BMW FB02 and the Formula XR. Div A has 1 server (max. 28 drivers). Div B has no limit and will use as many servers as needed for the participants. In Div B a sprint/main system is used. A 15 minute qualifying session decides the start order for the sprint race. The top 8 finishers will be reversed for the main race starting grid , encouraging even more close racing. Division A (FO8) has a single main event. With a race length of approx. 75 minutes strategy will come into play.

Seasons:
  • S2 Season 16 - 20 February -> 8 May
  • S2 Season 17 - 25 September -> 4 December

S2 Season 16
Div A/B S2 Season 16 will run in the first half of 2010. Drivers can sign up for the Div A or Div B races. Div A licensed drivers will first get the Div A positions if more than 28 drivers signup (see below). The Div A car is the Formula V8. Div B will alternate between the Formula BMW FB02 and the Formula XR. The Div A and B races always are at the same time and the same track for both divisions, so you have to choose between either division. It is allowed to compete switch racing in Div A and Div B during the season.

Calendar:
(# date: track (Div B car) - # laps Div B sprint / main / Div A main)

Divisions

So in which division will you drive? It´s up to you to choose. Div A is limited to 1 server. Div B has as many servers as needed. If you are new to LFS and do not have much experience in the formula cars, we suggest you start in Div B. Once you have build up more experience and you have proven yourself, you can move up to Div A. For example, you could set yourself the goal to first obtain the Div A license before starting to drive at Div A events. Read more about the license belows.

OWRL drivers can compare their times with their competitors using our own tracker. Each tracker automatically looks the track and the registered drivers the next event:

Div A License

Introduced in August 2009, the Div A license is an award to the drivers that raced in the Open Wheel Racing League and have shown they are capable of performing on the OWRL standards of driving and behavior.

All registered OWRL members are allowed to signup for Div A events. However, the starting grid for the Div A server will first be filled with Div A licensed drivers. Unlicensed drivers may not be able to participate if more than 28 drivers sign up. Also, the OWRL admins may change the rules so that only Div A licensed drivers are allowed to participate in Div A.

The following rules apply to handing out a Div A license:
- Top 7 of any Div B championship (drivers who already have a Div A license not considered)
- All OWRL champions
-The top X drivers of special events other competitions may also be granted a Div A license. This will be announced with the unveiling of that competition.

For example, the drivers that wins the MRT Cup will automatically receive a Div A license. More drivers may be granted the license. If this is the case, this will be announced before the season starts.

Once received a driver can not lose his Div A license unless that penalty is handed out by the marshals.

Division A
Car: Formula V8
Points: Top 3 in Qualifying (3, 2, 1). Race points are the same as F1 and are shown at the bottom of this page. In a season the worst result is dropped. This means, if a driver completes and scores points at all six events, the event he scored the least points is discarded.

Server: OWRL Div A
Time Table:
19:30 - Server open
20:00 - Qualifying (15 minutes)
20:20 - Main race (±75 minutes)

Division B
Car: Formula XR or Formula BMW FB02
Points: see image at the bottom of this page. Drivers who do not finish will get no points, unless they cover at least 80% of the distance in laps. The 1st driver on the next server will be placed directly behind the last driver to get points on the faster server. For the sprint race 33,33% of these points will be awarded. For the main this is 66,67% for a total of 100%.
The Winner on server 2 and 3 will get a bonus of 5 points, the number 2 gets 3 extra points and the 3rd place driver 1.
In Qualifying, the bonus for 1st three places are 3 points, 2 points and 1 point.
In a season the worst result (sprint/main race combined) is dropped. This means, if a driver completes and scores points at all six events, the event he scored the least poinst is discarded.

Sprint & main: Each event consists of two races, a short sprint race and a main race. The top 8 finishers from the sprint race will start in reversed order for the main race.

Servers:
OWRL Div B1
OWRL Div B2
(more if needed)

Drivers will be assigned onto one of these servers by hotlap / pb. To participate in any event, the driver will need to sign in at the upcoming event and will have to have set a time on the pronounced track before signup deadline. Drivers are allowed to join mid-season.

Time Table:
19:30 - Server open
20:00 - Qualifying (15 minutes)
20:20 - Sprint race (±15 minutes)
20:40 - Main race(±40 minutes)

Team championship & Points
For both Div A and Div B the best driver and the best team will be crowned. For the team championship, teams can compete with one or more drivers. All you need is to have a team tag in your name. In any race, the best two drivers of the team can score points for that team. In Div B, the sprint race and main race will count as separate races. Qualifying points are counted with the sprint race.

The rule for the drivers championship that discards the worst result is not in effect for the team championship. All points scored at all 6 events will count towards the team championship.

The teams are fixed in the way drivers race at that event, meaning that if a teamless driver joins a team the points he scored at a previous round will not count for that team. His future points will of course. Drivers may change teams during the season, they will simply start scoring points for their new team.

Div A points:
  1. 25 points
  2. 18 pts
  3. 15 pts
  4. 12 pts
  5. 10 pts
  6. 8 pts
  7. 6 pts
  8. 4 pts
  9. 2 pts
  10. 1 pts
